Love to cook Filipino food? Gain an unfair advantage from other food sellers! Have your own Filipino store!
Are you selling Filipino food as a sideline? Have you seriously considered making your part-time business a permanent replacement for your boring J.O.B.? Get ahead of your competition by owning a Filipino store! Kapamilya store is looking for new owners in 2024!
Yes. It’s true. We decided to let another business minded Filipino take over Kapamilya Filipino Store and Groceries. I have already announced on my Facebook account as well as at the FB Kain Tayo page our intention to turn over ownership of Kapamilya Store this year 2024.
Our lease contract ends in September and we’ll probably be out of there before October.
We’re hoping that somebody will take over the Filipino store because it’s actually a good business to own if anyone is searching for a turnkey, make-money-immediately business. And also on a personal level, we hope someone takes over because we feel bad for all the loyal customers who will be forced to go farther away just to get their regular Filipino products, especially the money remittance part of the business. Many of them are even asking us to reconsider but we got to move forward.
If anyone, anybody suspects that we are leaving the store because it’s not making us any money, you are wrong. We have the numbers to show that it is a viable business for any Filipino who is seriously looking to own his/her Filipino food store business in Canada. Especially if he or she was already involved in the food business. It’s a good fit for anyone who cooks and was searching for a permanent place to display their specialty.
And these are reasons we are leaving the store:
1) Our travel agency business was alive again after the pandemic and we’re having a hard time taking care of both the store and the travel business. And the store was far from our travel and tours office, thus traveling between the two businesses will take up most of our time.
Also, during the tour season, which is in the whole summer, it is going to be really difficult to look after the store.
2) Our son, the owner and who minds the store usually, is starting a business outside of Canada. And he plans on staying longer where his business will be. He is single and was not used to working 7 days a week for long periods, thus his decision.
3) Some of our customers asked me to take over instead but I don’t want to because I have been very eager to winter outside of Canada since 4 years ago. I was just forced to stay during the pandemic because outside travel was prohibited.
Those are really the 3 reasons why we decided to sell the Filipino store.
What the next owner will be getting as soon as taking over the store:
No. 1 and the most important is that the next owner will start making money as soon as taking over. It’s a turnkey business just like when we first got it. No joke!
Although the merchandise stock was pretty low when we moved in, still, loyal customers of the Filipino store patronized us even though there’s few choices. We appreciate very much their support and loyalty. That is why we hurriedly filled the shelves, the freezers and the cooler within the week with merchandise.
No. 2, the remittance commissions alone will pay for the rent. This is exactly the reason why my wife was trying to convince us (me and our son) to keep the Filipino store. She is the one who knows about making money in the family and thus knows the potential of the remittance business. And she also has suggested some ideas on how to add more income to the store.
I believe her because in all those 4 years, I came to observe the flow of customer traffic, have spied on our competitions nearby, have observed the buying habits of our customers (we know which products are sellable), and my conclusion was - there’s plenty of room to grow.
We have not done any serious marketing since we took over and still the yearly sales was pretty constant. I even spied on and observed how other Filipino stores maximized their store spaces which we can apply to Kapamilya store, so that we can add more shelves and thus add more products.
I have to turn all her pleading down, though, because I’m not willing to sacrifice anymore of my time from my original plan of snowbirding. Maybe for 1M dollars I will change my mind. But only for another year. LOL.
In retrospect, me and my wife are thankful that the store came to us at the right moment. It was a blessing from the Lord, I always believed. It has taught our son a very important lesson in owning a business, which opened his eyes to the entrepreneurial world. We have been hoping for the longest time for even one or two of our children to become business people like us, and I think this Filipino store was the answer.
Anyway, that’s probably all there is to say. And below is the ads that my daughter have created to announce the sale of the store. If anyone, after reading this, is interested, just call or text this number: 416-429-7683.
(Note: This offer is applicable only for residents of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is a Filipino who is used to servicing kababayans. It is our experience that this store can be run successfully if owned by at least one Pinoy who speaks Tagalog and had experience in a Philippine business setting. Financials and numbers are available by visiting the store in person.)
